I have a crafty gene-finally!

June 16, 2009

I don't usually do these Mr. Linky post thingies, but Kimba at A Soft Place to Land gave me the opportunity to brag on some outside projects that I did. I do so few cool outside projects (other than the Squirrel Thwarter, tee hee..), that I had to show both of these off!

For Mother's Day 2005, my husband and kids gave me this great swing. (Those are my parents and my son sitting in it, sans the top.) I didn't love the fabric, but it was functional. This year, I noticed that the fabric was dry-rotting on the top and on the cushion, so I sewed a new top, cushion, and added pillows! ( I am NOT a seamstress. I can barely sew on a button!)
Also, my Daddy built a pergola for me this spring. He and I put down all the brick and concrete pavers. I've steadily been adding flowers and azalea bushes as the year progressed. I spent the first week in June pulling weeds and briars and then I spread pine straw for ground cover. I also sewed some matching pillows to go in the chairs out of left-over swing fabric scraps.
Once all this was "done up," we threw Luke's 6th birthday party in our backyard. Everyone enjoyed relaxing in the pergola!

You really don't sew? What a fabulous job! I have a sewing phobia or something. I think that is the one crafty thing I haven't tried yet.

The pergola is gorgeous!

Holy cow! I want to come hang out in your yard! Your swing looks beautiful with it's new fabric. I've been wanting a swing forever!

And the pergola is fab! I'm trying to talk The Hubster into building one for us too.

That is beautiful! You can't find eye catching fabrics for outdoors like that, most of them are light colored. If I EVER get Joel to hang my swing,I might have to beg you to make me one : )
